How to download your CAS statement
One PDF that lists every share, bond, ETF and mutual fund held under your PAN, across all brokers.
What is a CAS?
A Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) is a monthly statement that combines your holdings across every demat account and mutual fund folio linked to your PAN. If you have accounts with Zerodha and Groww, plus a few mutual funds bought directly from the fund house, one CAS shows all of them together, with the value on the statement date.
There are two kinds you will come across:
- Depository CAS (NSDL or CDSL) - covers demat holdings (shares, ETFs, bonds, sovereign gold bonds) and, in most cases, mutual fund units held in statement form too. The depository where you hold the most accounts usually sends it.
- Mutual fund CAS (CAMS / KFintech) - covers only mutual fund folios, with full transaction history if you ask for a "detailed" statement.
For a portfolio tracker, the depository CAS is the most useful because it covers both shares and funds in one file.
Option 1: the monthly email you already get
If you had any transaction in a month, NSDL or CDSL emails you a CAS around the first half of the following month; if nothing moved, you still get one every six months. Search your inbox for NSDL CAS or CDSL CAS. The attachment is a password-protected PDF.
Option 2: download it on demand
NSDL
- Go to the NSDL e-CAS page on
nsdl.co.in(look for "Consolidated Account Statement" or "e-CAS"). - Log in or register with your PAN and the email linked to your demat account.
- Choose the statement period and request the statement. It is emailed to you.
CDSL
- Visit
cdslindia.comand open the CAS section (sometimes listed under "Investors"). - Enter your PAN and the OTP sent to your registered mobile or email.
- Request the statement for the month you want. It arrives by email.
Mutual funds only (CAMS or KFintech)
- Open the "CAS" or "Mailback" service on
camsonline.comor MF Central. - Pick "Detailed" if you want transactions, or "Summary" for holdings only.
- You choose the PDF password on this form, so note it down.
Website menus change often. If a link has moved, search the site for "CAS". Never download a CAS from a site you reached through an ad or an unknown link.
Opening the PDF: the password
Depository CAS files are always encrypted. The format is written in the email itself, and is usually your PAN in capital letters, sometimes followed by your date of birth. For CAMS and KFintech statements it is the password you set when you requested it.
Using your CAS in Vitta-Kosh
Open the dashboard, choose Import, drop the PDF and type its password. The file is parsed and not kept. Do this again each month, when the new statement arrives, to bring your holdings up to date.
The CAS password is used only to open that one file. It is not stored.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely fix |
|---|---|
| No CAS email at all | Check that the email on your demat account is current. Update it through your broker. |
| "Wrong password" | Try PAN in capitals only, then PAN plus date of birth (DDMMYYYY). Read the email text for the exact format. |
| Mutual funds missing | Funds held only in statement form may appear on the CAMS/KFintech CAS instead. Upload that too. |
| Two statements, different values | Each is valued on its own statement date. Use the latest one. |
